Note: this is the third blog in a series based on my book: The Top Ten Most Outrageous Couples of the Bible. Focus on the Family re-aired two interviews with me on this book last week: April 30 and May 1. If you missed these shows, you can still listen to them on the Focus on the Family website.
The Big Idea
To be the best wife you can be, you need to build a healthy life outside your home.
The Proverbs 31 wife is an emotionally healthy woman with a very positive self-image. She has a robust love for herself. She nurtures herself. She cares for herself. One of the foundational sources of her love for herself is her variety of outside the home interests. I am convinced that the Proverbs 31 wife would heartily approve of 3 key actions.
First Action: Personal Time. Most women, especially married women, focus on the home and everything that needs to be done. These home jobs never stop! You need to get out of the home on a regular basis and do something fun for you: a fun shopping trip, lunch or dinner with a friend, a Bible study, a craft show, the beach. . .
Second Action: A Hobby. This is an activity that nurtures your personhood. It is an expression of who you are inside. You could do this activity during your personal time if you want: scrapbooking, sewing, crafts, painting, taking a class, reading, playing a sport, going to the theater, volunteering at a local non-profit. . .
Third Action: Regular Exercise. You need to exercise regularly if you want to stay physically, emotionally, and spiritually healthy. 30 minutes, 3 times a week is a good goal. You can walk, jog, or swim. There are all kinds of torture-I mean, exercise-machines you can use at home.
